A prominent city lawyer has been charged on the accusation of stealing Ksh6 million.
The advocate of the high court was presented before the Kibera court on allegations of making away with the money from the account of Sale Processing Safety Company.
The suspect, identified as Festus Muremi, appeared before Kibera magistrate Boaz Ombewa on Friday where he pleaded not guilty and was given Sh200,000 cash bail.
He is also a co-director of the company he is accused of stealing from.
On Monday, state prosecutor Zakary Munene prayed that Muremi be detained for more six days to prevent him from tampering with the evidence, an application which the defense objected to.
The defense said the state did not give compelling reasons as to why the advocate should not be released arguing that he can be out while the investigations are going on.
On February 15, the accused is said to have reported to Kileleshwa Police Station that he had been abducted by robbers.
He claimed that the said abductors took him to Sarit Centre where he was allegedly forced to withdraw the Ksh6 million from a KCB Bank branch.
However, CCTV footage of the day showed that the lawyer withdrew the money from the account alone and thereafter boarded a vehicle that took him towards Waiyaki Way.
The case will now be heard on February 25.
