One Dead, Two Injured in Demolition Exercise

 A 29- year-old man died and his two colleagues were seriously injured during a demolition exercise at Kiprirbei village in Mutarakwa area in Bomet Central Sub-county Monday.

Confirming the accident, Bomet Central Sub- county Police Commander  Musa Omar Imamai said the trio were among a group that had been hired to demolish structures that have been built on the road reserve in the area when the incident occurred at around midday.

He said the three; Bernard Langat, 37, Paul Koskei, 34 and Wesley Langat, who is now deceased were demolishing a building that collapsed and seriously injured them.

They were rescued and rushed to Tenwek Mission Hospital where Wesley was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was then moved to Longisa Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and further police investigations into the incident.

The two injured men are fighting for their lives at Tenwek Mission Hospital after they suffered various soft tissue injuries in the said incident and medics have said they are in a stable condition.

Mr Omar termed the incident as unfortunate saying, police will carry out thorough investigations into the incident to know what went wrong and bring to book anyone who might have flouted safety rules or errored in any way, leading to the loss of a life and injuries to the duo.

“I appeal to anyone who is undertaking any task that can endanger human life to ensure all safety measures are put in place to safeguard life,” Omar said.

He further cautioned wananchi against engaging in works or activities that endanger their lives, even if it’s going to help them earn their daily bread.
