Kirinyaga County gubernatorial seat aspirant, Martha Karua, has paved the way for the ‘Azimio la Umoja’ coalition with her Narc Kenya Party being the first to hold a major political rally in Tharaka-Nithi County.
Drumming support for her party gubernatorial aspirant for the County, Dr. Mzalendo Kibunja, the Narc Kenya leader held their first political rally at the Tharaka-Nithi County Headquarters at Kathwana, yesterday.
Speaking during the rally, Karua hailed the people of Tharaka-Nithi for embracing peace and political tolerance, by giving all political aspirants room to sell their political agenda thus affording the people freedom to decide their leadership and destiny.
The Narc Kenya leader said although electing the right president is important for the country to prosper, the development of the county lies with the governor and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and urged the people of Tharaka-Nithi to ignore party affiliations and elect Dr. Mzalendo Kibunja, who is ready to serve the people.
“We cannot ask any party to account for poor development record or misappropriation of county funds. We can only ask individuals and hence it is important to consider the track records of individuals and not parties as we elect our leaders,” emphasized Karua.
“We should not repeat the mistake we made in 2017, where we elected candidates of only one political party in the name of a ‘suit’, only to realize soon after that some pieces of the suit do not fit our bodies. What is the use of a suit with a coat fitting well, but the pair of trousers is either too short or too long for us?” she posed.
She advised them to gauge aspiring leaders from the Members of the County Assembly (MCA’s) to the president and if all those in one party are persons with good track records, then a suit may be applicable but not be deceived to elect any candidate at any level just because of the party, while their integrity is wanting.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Mzalendo Kibunja said he has decided to vie for the Tharaka-Nithi County Governor’s position out of his conviction that the county is heading to the wrong direction.
“The resources of Tharaka-Nithi are being plundered by the current Administration in cahoots with other people who are not residents in Tharaka-Nithi,” Dr. Kibunja disclosed.
The gubernatorial aspirant said it is very unfortunate that all the ballast that is used in construction of roads and buildings in Tharaka-Nithi comes from other counties, namely Embu, Murang’a and Isiolo, yet God has blessed the County with huge expanses of rocks.
