Former Youth Principal Secretary (PS) Ms. Lillian Mbogo Omollo who is facing graft charges in the Sh. 9 billion National Youth Service scandal has been cleared by the IEBC to vie for Embu Senatorial seat in the August polls.

The embattled ex-PS who is eying the seat on a Jubilee Party ticket presented her papers on Sunday afternoon.

Her clearance comes amid mounting pressure on the poll agency by civil society groups to bar politicians facing graft charges from contesting as they accuse the electoral body of lowering the integrity bar by allowing contestants with questionable character to vie.

The former PS is among 25 political aspirants that pressure group, National Integrity Alliance, has asked the electoral body to refrain from clearing over integrity issues.

However, Ms. Mbogo dismissed any such report(s) as propaganda meant to malign her name and candidature, saying whatever has been required of her to do by the IEBC to get clearance, she has done.

“IEBC is very clear and has cleared me and shame on whoever may be saying otherwise,” the aspirant said.

She exuded confidence of a clear win with a promise of pushing for the county’s rightful share of the national cake to ensure Embu people enjoy fruits of devolution.

“If there is one seat that the Jubilee Party is assured of clinching in the county, it is the Senate seat,” Ms. Mbogo said as she also called on the electorate to vote for individuals and not political parties.
