Trouble is brewing at Pioneer International University owned by reclusive billionaire Peter Munga who is also the founding member of top tier lender, Equity Bank.
Insiders at the institution told this publication that the university is already at loggerheads with higher education regulator, Commission for University Education after it emerged that the university has been offering programs without the approval from the latter.
Also, it is alleged, insiders confide, that the university has been fraudulently been partnering with counties to train its staff and offer degrees without them having attained requisite qualifications.
“The situation here is bad.I was a lecturer there until I left a few years ago and I can tell you it’s purely business and no quality learning. After the university failed to attract more students because of competition from reputable institutions like Mount Kenya university and Zetech University , the focus has now turned into questionable partnerships and it’s better we inform students and parents to avoid pitfalls through skewed advertising,” a highly placed source who has worked at the Nairobi based private university told this writer.
The September intake , our sources told us attracted 97 students only and the university is now wooing students through uncertain linkages with diaspora universities.
Peter Munga was one of the billionaires who bankrolled Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga who lost to Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto who is now head of state.
