A woman and a child died on the spot on Sunday, after a Nairobi bound bus travelling from Lwakhakha lost control, veered off the road hitting a boda boda rider.
Thirty-three passengers aboard the vehicle sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to various health facilities within Bungoma for immediate medical attention.
The accident happened at Namundi village in Lwandanyi ward, Sirisia constituency, Bungoma West Subcounty, Bungoma County. Area Sub County Police Commander David Kandie has confirmed the incident.
Kandie noted that eight people are admitted at Bungoma County Referral hospital, 16 at Korosiondet health facility, two at Cheptais Sub county hospital and seven at Sirisia Sub-county hospital where they are undergoing medical attention.
He said that the bodies of the deceased were moved to Bungoma county Referral hospital mortuary. Police have launched further investigations into the grisly accident.
Kandie called on bus owners to only carry the required number of passengers saying many people are traveling back to their respective places of work after festivities.
“Let us be vigilant and double check PSV vehicles before boarding them, safety begins with you, don’t accept to board an overloaded vehicle while travelling,” Kandie warned.
Sirisia MP John Waluke who visited the scene appealed to drivers to be careful to avoid causing preventable accidents.
